Have you heard your local gym bro spark up conversation on "macros"? I think there's a good chance you have heard someone mention this subject, or if not, well this is a great time to get the inside look, since at some point in time, someone will bring this up to you.
Macros or Macronutrients are a part of our diet that we constantly hear about and look at, whether we know it or not. These are the Carbohydrates, Protein, and Fats in our foods, and ultimately, make up our fuel and information our body runs off of. This is also what plays a huge part in the composition, or make up of our body; weight, muscle density and mass, among many other things. Knowing or having an idea of the amount of each macronutrient we consume can be the difference between losing the 15lbs or staying at the same weight for years; gaining the 10 lbs of muscle or not gaining much at all. Sounds very important, doesn't it?
Yes, it is, BUT from gym bro 1 to the gym bro from before, don't overthink it. I have seen time and time again the mistakes that can come from wanting to measure how much carbs, protein, and fats you are eating. Think of the scales, measuring, and restricting certain foods people will go through, in order to achieve a desired result. Well, that doesn't seem like much fun!
Note: People have made this work, especially professional bodybuilders, or full time athletes.
Now if you have the time, patience, and supreme willpower, go ahead, use the measuring tools and stick to those percentages of each macronutrient!
I however, and the vast majority of people I have coached to find and love their new eating lifestyle, have used a tool like this to combine the percentages of macros, with the power of control and simplicity of controlling what you eat. I love this tool, and I have successfully used it many times with clients.
